Week 28 52 Week project Amanita Mushroom Honeysuckle Girl Print 5x7

Here is my new print for this week. I am showing and offering two views for the print because it was done in my moleskine, so there is the bindery line down the middle of the painting.

Camping on Hood Canal, Duckabush, Quilcene, Dosewallips Rivers

We just went for probably the last camping trip until spring. It rained like crazy, but we still had fun. We drove around looking for photo ops on Saturday, but it was so wet, Dave only took one picture and I took none. The rivers were raging,

It cleared off on Sunday morning, so we went up the Duckabush and found some beauty.

All the little campgrounds are closed, but we found a beautiful little one that we will come back for next spring. We also found a cabin we had not known about. It's called Interrorum cabin and it costs $30 a night. There is no running water, and you have to use an outhouse. It's adorable, though. We saw tons of mushrooms and I got a wildlife shot. The chipmunk- or it might be a squirrel, there is some controversy about this...

pretty roads everywhere

Dave takes a shot, this was before he hurt his back! Also, I took it through the truck window so it's blurry. I just want to remember when he could still move.

The outhouse for the cabin. I must say these are the cutest outhouses I have ever seen, but they still stink inside.

Back porch of the cabin

Interrorum cabin built in 1907 by the first Olympic ranger. Mr Finch, he built it himself and brought his new bride there. Lucky girl.
I felt kind of bad snooping around the cabin, since it was rented, but the people were gone, so I looked in the windows. Yes, I'm like that.
You can see me in the reflection of the window, but that white teapot really got me... inside where I am soft like a woman, and knowing that I won't EVER stay in this cabin

Primitive. Yikes! I like my paid for 1986 fifth wheel better. We can make lattes and it's warm as toast.

3 things I have learned (or re-learned)this week

1.You should not apply deodorant right after you shave your armpits. (meet itchy and scratchy)
2. There is no 'e' between the judge and the ment. It's spelled judgment. I have been spelling it and doing it wrong for almost 50 years, probably. I'm going to use spell check more often and work on trying not to judge...
3. You have to let people make their own mistakes. Even if it seems like they are on a crash course to disaster, or if they are not making any choices and seeming to let bad things happen. It's my job to say my piece (or not) and then let it go and just love them anyway. And I do.

edit*** Just got a note from my mother in law, (thank you Martha) She said that you can spell judgement with an 'e'! You can spell it either way. How about that? Since she is older and wiser, I will believe her.

Week 25 Print Peppermint Ice Queen, also some journal pages

As requested I'm going to make the peppermint girl my 5x7 print this week, and I'm also posting some assignment moleskine journal pages from my SuziBlu class.
That girl on the right looks like a bad caricature of Janeane Garofalo, and no amount of reworking has made her prettier. Not that I don't think JG is pretty. I said BAD caricature.
The red haired girl is a take on one SB did for the class, with some Klimt imagery too, can't seem to quiet that obsession.... She has fabric and a handcarved stamp applied to her too, and all sorts of media.
Sorry I have not replied to any comments, I will, it's been a busy week and next week worse.
I will announce the print winner tomorrow.

An ode to Lempicka and Klimt

I'm taking an online course from Suzi Blu, and this is one of my projects. Of course, it's nothing like what she asked for, but the girl is done in colored pencil, and I worked on using layers. I thought the girl looked sort of Lempicka-ish, and I got the abstract background idea from Klimt. I'm sure he won't mind. Also the two leaves were inspired by Maria Pace Wynters.

My stupid root canal is still hurting, my cheek is yellow and swollen and I feel crappy. I am done with the antibiotics tomorrow, and will see the dentist again tomorrow. I am so worried that we are still not done with this. UGH!

Week 23 Limited Edition Print 5x7 Shipwrecked

I'm late with the print this week. I had a rough week, The worst part was another root canal on that same tooth,(#3) through the gum, too terrible to even describe, really. I have seven stitches in my gum. 'nuff said?

I really struggled with this painting. It was suggested by Micki Wilde.

I did the sketch while we were camping a couple weeks ago, but the girls face just would not come out. I finally realized that I was painting a happy face when there should be some concern on her face. I think it should be really called, "The Lighthouse Keepers Daughter, 2"

Anyway, I hope I will feel better this week and my print will be up at the regular time next week. Plus, there will be a giveaway next week.

update about this weeks print

This is probably only earthshattering to me, but I will be posting week 21 print on Wednesday, because we are leaving for a camping trip tomorrow, no internet. I hope you all can restrain yourself from freaking out... :)
I hope to get a lot of little paintings done this weekend, so I can concentrate on some larger paintings when we get home for a show I'm doing December. I'm taking my list of all your great ideas.

The giveaway winner!

The winner of the 5 prints is KSLAUGHTER! I love that song, 'Burgundy Shoes' by Patty Griffith! I don't know how to paint it, but I will figure it out. I also especially liked Chloe's idea for the vintage wedding, Micki's idea, Shipwecked, and Tam's idea for the Blowers Daughter but she took herself out of the running since she already bought most of those prints. So K Slaughter wins the 5 prints and Chloe and Micki, I will send you a print if you send me your address.
I really appreciate all of your ideas and I will think about using them all, and if I do, I will give you a free print. If you see I used your idea, remind me. :)
I'm sorry, this just about killed me, I think I will go back to picking numbers because this is too hard. I wish I could give each of the 17 comments a free print! Maybe you will win next time.

Week 20 52 week print project THE LIGHTHOUSE KEEPERS DAUGHTER

My husband and I love finding lighthouses to photograph, we have quite a collection. It all probably started because my great aunt, Helene, wrote a book called "The Light On The Island" It's based on the true story of her life as a child on Patos Island in the San Juans. We enjoyed reading that book several times, and read it to our children on a memorable sailboat trip several years ago. In fact we had a pretty harrowing night that trip in the cove at Patos Island. The cove there is called Active Cove and it lived up to it's name.

Anyway, that's the story behind this weeks print.

As far as the giveaway goes, I had so many good painting ideas, I really don't know what to do! How do I pick one or two or three? I'm going to sleep on it and let you know tomorrow.
The original is available, please email me here or convo me from etsy.

Nibblefest Entry "Sisters in the Trees"

Here is my newest painting on muslin. I could not resist listing it on ebay for nibblefest, although it has been months since I listed anything on ebay. It's 9x12, will need to be framed or sewn into something, like a purse or a pillow. It's a little more rustic than my usual work, but I thought it looked so cool on the fabric, I stopped when it told me to.

Nibblefest is an art contest on ebay where everything starts at 99 cents, and the artist who gets the most unique bidders wins. I came in second once, years ago. It's a good way for new people to find my work, but sometimes it falls flat and one of my little paintings goes for $4 or something. But oh well, that's the way it is sometimes.

The theme this month for nibblefest is Trees, Rivers. You can't see it, but there is a raging river behind those sisters.

sometimes this is how i feel about my blog

I will post a nibblefest entry later today.
